JJ Wetherholt Listed as Top-2 MLB Draft Prospect
Morgantown, West Virginia - JJ Wetherholt's draft stock continues to be sky-high. The West Virginia University second baseman is ranked as the No. 2 prospect for the 2024 MLB Draft by Perfect Game, trailing only Wake Forest first baseman Nick Kurtz.
Wetherholt had a monster season for the Mountaineers in 2023, leading the nation with a .449 batting average. He also hit 16 home runs, drove in 60 runs, and stole 36 bases. The Big 12 Player of the Year was named a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, given to the nation's top amateur baseball player.
Wetherholt is expected to be one of the first players off the board in the 2024 MLB Draft, which will be held in Texas. The draft order will be established on December 5 at Major League Baseball's Winter Meetings.
Aidan Major Also Ranked Among Top 100 Prospects
Wetherholt's Mountaineer teammate, right-handed pitcher Aidan Major, is also ranked among the top 100 prospects for the 2024 MLB Draft. Perfect Game has Major ranked as the No. 89 prospect.
Major had a solid season for the Mountaineers in 2023, posting a 4-2 record with a 4.88 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 68.2 innings pitched. He earned All-Big 12 Honorable Mention honors.
Major is expected to be drafted in the middle rounds of the 2024 MLB Draft. He has a good fastball and a developing slider and changeup.
